The September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the United States of America has spawned many reports of solid, dubious and unknown origins. It is important for us to sort out the validity of these reports. Needless panic and lack of attention to a threat are dangerous to our survival.

Under the first bullet, you will find reports posted on Urban Legends Reference Page which have surfaced in the past two months; the reports are color-coded for ease of identification of their validity.

 
The second bullet concerns an interview by a Dr. Robert Koontz concerning a warning of a major biological attach hidden in allegedly coded paintings. Please read this item (not just its headline), so you can make up your own mind as to its validity.
 
Before you believe dire warnings from little publicly known sources on face value, it is useful to research the source of the information and thus be able to evaluate the information with more facts in hand. The following case is one such warning that deserves further study:

If you use AOL Instant Messenger, you will be interested in an Associated Press article which warns: "A security hole in AOL Time Warner's Instant Messenger program used by millions of people worldwide can let a hacker take full control of a victim's computer, according to security researchers and the company." SECURITY BULLETIN #4 - Outlook Express

"Outlook Express Flaw Speeds Hacking - Microsoft warned Outlook Express users late Thursday that a software flaw could allow an online vandal to control their computers. A critical vulnerability in the e-mail reader could allow an attacker to send a specially formatted message that would crash the software and potentially take control of the recipient's computer." Get the
Microsoft Service Pack for Outlook Express 5.5 and 6.0. Microsoft says that Microsoft Outlook is not affected by this problem.
Note Microsoft's explanation in the Tested Versions paragraph: "Tested Versions: Microsoft tested Outlook Express 5.5 and 6.0 to assess whether they are affected by these vulnerabilities.
Previous versions are no longer supported, and may or may not be affected by these vulnerabilities."
